The history of Colombia

 

    Colombia has a great history of being in slavery and land being taken from them during the colonial period. the Spanish exploded Colombia in the early 1500s looking at scouting the land. in the next 40 years, the Spanish conquered Santa Marta, followed by Cartagena, and then Cali. European diseases and other things soon wiped out the native  people of Colombia. people that were taken from Africa soon worked as slaves. From 1525 to 1808 the Spanish had a great rule in Colombia, soon Spanish farmers moved to Colombia and moved the rest of what was left go the natives to restricted locations. There were many attempts to rebel against the Spanish but nun succeed. On July 10th, 1810 Colombia announced their independence from Spain. soon after in 1811, Antonio Narino lead a movement that led to the independence of Cartagena. Cartagena was ruled by two separate governments that led to a civil war. soon enough others rebelled against the Spanish and then soon fell.

     Large scale Catholicism of the nation took place under Spanish rule, bringing with them festivals and tribal elements. Colombians are very creative, these includes paintings, dancing, and sculptures. these are mainly influenced by African, and Spanish traditions. The food is mainly influenced by  European traditions with a strong Afro-Caribbean mix. The different food widely depends on what you eat and the region you are in. Colombians eat a large amount of rice, meats including beef, fish, pork, chicken, and goat. fruit including berries are apart of the meals. A big amount of bread is used for treats and makes goods.
